Steve Warner

Steve Warner has been Director of Bands at Jonesboro High School since 1995. Before coming to Jonesboro, he taught at West Memphis High School, Poplar Bluff (MO) High School, and Hughes High School. Mr. Warner just completed his 32nd year of teaching and his 14th year at Jonesboro. At Jonesboro, Mr. Warner conducts the Jonesboro High School Symphonic Winds, directs the JHS Marching Band, team teaches beginning classes at Annie Camp Junior High School, and serves as Instrumental Music Coordinator for Jonesboro Public Schools.

     Mr. Warner is a native of Pine Bluff where he began his instrumental training under Phil Barranco in the Watson Chapel Public Schools. He attended Arkansas State University where he studied horn with the legendary Donald R. Minx. He received both his Bachelor of Music Education and Masters of Music Education from ASU. 

     Mr. Warner's career began at Hughes, Arkansas where he developed a successful program. The Hughes High School Band performed at the 1994 National Concert Contest hosted by ASBDA where they received First Division Ratings from the distinguised adjudication panel of William Revelli, Mark Hindsley, and Arnald Gabriel.

     Following his tenure at Hughes, Mr. Warner served as Director of Bands in Poplar Bluff, Missouri for three years. The Poplar  Bluff Marching Band was a two-time Bands of America Region Finalist during that time. In addition, the PBHS Symhonic Band was selected and performed as the Missouri AAAA Honor Band at the 1987 Missouri Music Educators Convention.

     Prior to coming to Jonesboro, Mr. Warner spent eight years as Director of Bands and Music Supervisor for West Memphis Public Schools. The West Memphis High School Band earned consecutive Arkansas Sweepstakes Awards as well as being a three-time winner of the Arkansas Governor's Cup.
     
     For the past fourteen years, the Jonesboro High School Band has consistently earned First Division, Superior Ratings. The JHS Band has been a leader in placing students in both the All-Region and Arkansas All-State Band. Major achievements by the JHS Band under Warner's tenure include serving as the Arkansas Honor Band at the 1997 Four States Band Directors Convention, performing in the 53rd Presidential Inaugural Parade, being a nine-time Arkansas Open Marching Champion, and two-time Arkansas Governor's Cup Champion. In addition the JHS Band has traveled to Hawaii, Europe, New York City, Washington D.C. and Disney World.

     In 2008 Mr. Warner was recognized by School Band and Orchestra Magazine as one the 50 Directors That Make A Difference. He received the
Arkansas Bandmaster of the Year Award in 1999. In 1984 he was awarded the prestigious ASBDA Stanbury Award on both the state and regional levels.

     His professional memberships include Phi Beta Mu, MENC, NBA, ABA,  JFAST and ASBOA. He currently serves as vice-president of Dixie Band Camp, the oldest music camp in the South and the second oldest music camp in the country. Mr. Warner's wife, LaJuana, teaches choral music at Annie Camp Junior High School and serves on the music staff at Central Baptist Church. Their son, Trent, just completed his first year as a Music Education major at the University of Central Arkansas.


Stan Hall

Stan Hall is in his fifteenth year as Assistant Band Director at Jonesboro High School. Prior to teaching at JHS, Mr. Hall served as Director of Bands at MacArthur Junior High School and Hughes High School, with a total of twenty-three years teaching in the State of Arkansas.

     He is a graduate of Arkansas State University where he studied trombone with Dr. Neale Bartee. Mr. Hall began his instrumental training in the West Memphis School District. While there, he was a student of Phil Burns. 

     At Jonesboro, Mr. Hall conducting the JHS Concert Winds,  assisting with the JHS Marching Band, directing the JHS Jazz Band, and team teaching beginning classes at MacArthur Junior High School. The JHS Concert Winds have received numerous First Division Ratings under his direction and the JHS Jazz Band is very active, playing at numerous community events. 

     Mr. Hall's professional affiliations include members in ASBOA, ABA, Phi Beta Mu, and ASBDA. He currently serves as  President of the Arkansas Bandmasters Association. He has served on the staff of Dixie Band Camp for the past 23 years.

     Mr. Hall and his wife, Edie, have two children, Taylor and Jacob.
